ಆಳವನು ನೋಡಿ ಬಗೆದಾಡುವ ಮಾತಿಂಗೆ । ರೂಢಿಯರ್ಥವದೊಂದು ಗೂಡಾರ್ಥವೊಂದು ॥ ವಾರಿಧಿಯ ದಾಂಟುವುಡುಪಕೆ ಗಾಳಿಪಟವೊಂದು । ಕೋಲು ಹುಟ್ಟೊಂದು ಬಲ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೫೫೮ ॥
ALavanu nODi bagedu ADuva mAtinge । rUDhiyarthavadondu gUDhArthavondu ॥ vAridhiya dAnTuva uDupake gALipaTavondu। kOlu huTTondu bala - Mankutimma ॥ 558 ॥
ನಾವು ಕೇಳುವ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಆಳವಾಗಿ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿದರೆ, ಮೇಲುನೋಟಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ಅರ್ಥ ಕಂಡರೆ, ಒಳನೋಟಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇರೆ ಅರ್ಥವಿರುವುದು. ಸಾಗರವ ದಾಟುವ ಹಡಗಿಗೆ ಮೇಲಿಂದ ದಿಕ್ಕನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುವ ಹಾಯಿ ಅಥವಾ ಗಾಳಿಪಟದ ಮತ್ತು ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಲದಿಂದ ಹಾಕುವ ಹುಟ್ಟಿನ ಬಲವಿದ್ದಂತೆ, ನಾವು ಆಡುವ ಅಥವಾ ಕೇಳುವ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ರೂಢಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಅರ್ಥವು ಒಂದಿದ್ದರೆ ಗಹನವಾದ ವಿಚಾರದಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಅರ್ಥವಿರುತ್ತದೆ, ಎಂದು ಮಾತು ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಅರ್ಥದ ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು.
When one thinks a lot and speaks (like the sages did) their words will have more than one meaning - one that is apparent and simple, and another which is involved and mysterious. Understanding both will help us cross this ocean of samsaara (worldly miseries) - just like the boat requires both the sail (apparent) and the rudder (hidden) to move. - Mankutimma
