ಒಲ್ಲೆನೆನುವರದಾರ್ ಅಹಿಂಸೆತತ್ತ್ವದ ಸೊಬಗ? । ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವೆನಾ ವ್ರತವನೆನಲೊಂದು ತೊಡಕು ॥ ಹುಲ್ಲೆಯನು ತಿನುವ ಹುಲಿಯೊಣಹುಲ್ಲನುಣಲಹುದೆ । ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲಿ ದಯೆ? - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೨೪೪ ॥

ಅಹಿಂಸೆಯ ಪ್ರತಿಪಾದನೆಯನ್ನು ಬೇಡವೆನ್ನುವವರು ಯಾರು. ಆದರೆ ಅಹಿಂಸಾ ವ್ರತ ಪಾಲನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಕಿದೆ. ತನ್ನ ಆಹಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಜಿಂಕೆ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಧಾರ ಪಟ್ಟಿರುವ, ಹುಲಿಯು ಹುಲ್ಲ ತಿಂದು ಜೀವಿಸಲಿಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆಯೇ. ಈ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲಿ ದಯೆ ಎಲ್ಲಿದೆ? ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಕಗ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ.
