ಹೊಸಹೊಸದು ತಾನಾಗುತಿರ್ದೊಡಂ ತನ್ನಯ । ಪ್ರಸವ ಪ್ರವಾಹ ಭೂಮಿಗಳ ಹಳತನದಿಂ ॥ ನಸುಸೋಂಕು ವಾಸನೆಯ ಪೊನಲೊಂದಬೇಕಲ್ತೆ? । ಹೊಸದು ಹಳದಾಗದೇ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೧೬೫ ॥
hosa hosadu tAnAgutirdoDam tannaya । prasava pravAha bhUmigaLa haLatanadim ॥ nasusOnku vAsaneya ponalu ondabEkalte? । hosadu haLadAgadE - Mankutimma ॥ 165 ॥
ಹೊಸಮಳೆಯಿಂದ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯಾದ ಹೊಸನೀರಿನ ನದಿ ಹರಿಯುವುದು ಹಳೆಯ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲವೇ? ಅದರ ಹರಿಯುವ ಪಾತ್ರವೇನೂ ಬದಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲವಲ್ಲವೇ? ಅದು ಉಗಮವಾಗುವ ಬೆಟ್ಟವೂ ಹಲತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅದು ಹರಿಯುವ ಭೂಮಿಯೂ ಹಳತೇ. ಹಾಗೆ ಹೊಸತನವನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಕೊಂಡ ನದಿ ಆ ಹಳೆಯ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನೂ ಹೊತ್ತು ಹೊಸದರಂತೆ ಹರಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಳತನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೊಸ ರೂಪಧರಿಸಿ ಸಾಗುವುದೇ ಈ ಜೀವನದ ನದಿ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥದಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಈ ಕಗ್ಗದ ಹೂರಣ.
"As we see new things in this world being created every day we must realize that they are all being made from old things only. Just like the new water (from previous verse) will have some smells from the past (of the earth) anything new will bear some resemblance to the past. Also, will 'new' not become 'old' in time?" - Mankutimma
