ಶ್ವಾನ ತಿಪ್ಪೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿರಲು ಪೂರ್ವಿಕ- । ಜ್ಞಾನ ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪ ಶುಭಚಿಂತೆಯಂತೆ ॥ ಏನೋ ವಾಸನೆ ಬೀಸಲದು ಹಾರಿ ದುಮುಕುವುದು । ಮಾನವನ ಮನಸಂತು - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೯೦೫ ॥
shvAna tippeya mEle malagiralu pUrvika- । jnAna pashchAttApa shubha chinteyante ॥ EnO vAsane bIsalu adu hAri dumukuvudu । mAnavana manasantu - Mankutimma ॥ 905 ॥
ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನವನ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ನಾಯಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಯಿಯ ಉಪಮೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟು, ತಿಪ್ಪೆಗುಂಡಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿದ ನಾಯಿ ಕಣ್ಣ ಮುಚ್ಚಿ ತನ್ನ ಪೂರ್ವ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಕೆದಕಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಆದ ತಪ್ಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪ ಪಡುತ್ತಿರಲು, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ವಸ್ತುವಿನ ವಾಸನೆ ಬರಲು ತಕ್ಷಣ ತನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆಲೋಚನೆ ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪಗಳನ್ನು ತೊರೆದು ‘ಚಂಗೆಂದು ‘ ಆ ವಾಸನೆ ಬಂದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಹಾರುತ್ತದೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿ, ಮಾನವನ ಮನಸ್ಸೂ ಸಹ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಎಂದು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು.
When a dog is sleeping peaceful on a pile of garbage, one may think that it is contemplating on the wisdom of its ancestors, or repenting for some action, or just thinking about something good and pleasant. But once there is a whiff of something (tasty) it will jump from there and follow the smell. Human mind is also thus. It is hard to find peace. Even when found, it is very easily disturbed by distractions. - Mankutimma
